Created by Gabrielle Roth and practiced by tens of thousands worldwide, 5Rhythms® is a philosophy, perspective, performance art and a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action.
Wherever the 5Rhythms are practiced, a community is born to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free.
A moving meditation. A path to higher vibration. A spiritual practice for some. A workout for others. You are the choreographer. Your body sets the limits. The chattery mind quiets.
In a group setting, each person does their own dance to "a wave" of music through the 5 rhythms of: flowing, staccato, chaos, lyrical and stillness. Through this practice of movement we explore the energy of these rhythms and how we relate to them, on the dance floor and off.
All are welcome! No matter your body type, age, color, or gender…..you belong and you are welcome to join this creative community / class! (We do ask that you are at least 16 years or older, unless we are offering a family or kid-friendly event.)
No experience is required. There is no right or wrong way to move and there are no steps to follow. You dance however your body wants to move. A handicap or injury/issue can only teach you new ways to move.
You just have to SHOW UP and let the dance do you.
led by certified teacher, Dana Danielson
Dana has been a devoted student of the 5Rhythms since 1998 and a certified teacher since 2011. Her love for this practice runs deep and strong. She knows personally, the profound power it has to transform and to expand all that is raw, true, and authentic within each of us.
Her greatest desire is to share this practice with as many bodies as possible, in and around her community. Her greatest joy is seeing peoples’ eyes light up and hearts openafter the dance!!
Dana studied the practice in many cities around the US. She was part of the last training group to have Gabrielle Roth as a teacher, before she passed away.
Gabrielle created the practice and wrote three books and produced many music albums, theater pieces and much more. Her son, Jonathan Horan, now leads the Global Rhythms movement.
how to prepare
Wear stretchy clothing, such as yoga attire. You can always add funky pieces or flair, to further express your dance! Layers are good in case you easily get warm or cool.
We often dance bare-foot but if you need shoes, please, only wear designated "dance" shoes and not street shoes.
Bring a water bottle. Optional: sweat towel, journal, and a friend.
Suggested Reading: "Sweat Your Prayers" or other books by Gabrielle Roth.
